The Statistics
- Every day in the United States three children die as a result of abuse and neglect. During 2008, in the State of Texas, 213 children died as a direct result of abuse or neglect. (DFPS 2008 Data Book)
- Every ten seconds a child is victimized by abuse or neglect. During 2008, in the State of Texas, 70,589 children were confirmed to have been victimized by abuse.

Closer to home, during 2008 in Bell and Coryell Counties there were 3878 CPS child abuse/neglect investigations and 1,419 children confirmed to be abused or neglected. 1,107 children were placed in the care of the State and foster care costs in Central Texas exceeded more than $6.9 million dollars. (DFPS 2008 Data Book).
- Prevent Child Abuse America reports that each year the (direct and indirect) cost of child abuse and neglect in the United States is in excess of $94 billion dollars.
- A National Call to Action states that the rate of child abuse is ten times the rate of cancer.
To have even a single child victimized by abuse is too many! If we don’t protect our children, who will?
